The entire SkinTrack system consists of a ring-shaped signal transmitter and a wrist-type receiver. The user needs to wear a ring that emits a signal on the finger of the other hand and connect the sensing bracelet to the smart watch. When the finger on the ring touches the skin, it emits a high frequency signal. This makes it possible to perform a watch operation on the skin, which is almost the same as a real touch.

One of the R&D team members, Carnegie? The first-year doctoral student at Mellon University said: "The biggest advantage of this SkinTrack system is that the device does not look awkward. The rings and bracelets used in the operating system are the decorations that we usually bring. It will not bring any inconvenience to life at all."

At this stage, the R&D team has developed a smart watch prototype to validate concepts and develop related applications. In the experiment we can see that you can browse the application on the smart watch by sliding your finger on the skin, and even interact with some applications. The user can define different functions through different gesture actions, for example, sliding to the left means entering the program, and sliding to the right means exiting the program.

It is reported that even the highly manipulated popular game Angry Birds can be operated through the SkinTrack system, and the touch accuracy rate has reached 99%. In addition to basic gesture operations, the SkinTrack system recognizes hotkey commands. For example, if a finger slides out "N", it means to open the news program, and "S" means to answer the call.

At this stage, there are still some shortcomings in this SkinTrack system. The SkinTrack system sometimes misidentifies the normal touch and movement of the arm, causing some unnecessary operations. At the same time, there may be concerns that the radio signals generated by the SkinTrack system work have an impact on health. The R&D team said there is no evidence that radio signals have an impact on human health.

So far, there is no commercial plan for this SkinTrack system. At this stage, many technology companies are focusing on the field of smart watches. There is not much enthusiasm for this “future operating interface” that is not yet hot but will have an impact on the field of smart wearable devices in the future. But everything is not absolute. Last year, Google introduced a fabric that can control the posture through touch sensing, which is designed to play a role in etiquette training.
