EU may extend anti-dumping tariff on energy-saving lamps for one year

The European Union (EU) may extend the anti-dumping duties imposed on Chinese energy-saving light bulbs by one year. However, no EU member states actively support this program.

A diplomat said that at a meeting held yesterday, EU member states voted on the proposal, of which 15 countries abstained, 10 countries opposed, and 2 countries had not yet decided. The waiver constitutes approval of the European Commission's retention of tariffs on Chinese energy-saving light bulbs. The proposal was made at the request of the German manufacturer Osram. Before the proposal became law, EU member states still had a chance to vote.
