AMCC's Arches dual PowerPC 460GT reference design has

Applied Micro Circuits CorporaTIon, a global leader in embedded Power Architecture processing, optical transmission and storage solutions, recently demonstrated advanced technologies for improving the energy efficiency of base stations at the next generation network and base station exhibition in Dallas, Texas.

AMCC's Arches Reference Design Toolkit has two Power Architecture processors. These processors are integrated into the standard Advanced TCA Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC), run at 1 GHz, and produce 4000 DMIPS. Therefore, the reference design toolkit brings a complete platform for base station developers, and its energy consumption per processor is generally less than 6W. This energy efficiency can reduce the heat dissipation in the system, thereby reducing the operator's demand for large radiators, fine cooling resources and other facility costs. The on-chip integration of the two PowerPC 460 GT processors brings a high-speed interface to industry-standard solutions based on Serial RapidIO, Gigabit Ethernet, and PCI Express interconnect technology.

Arches' compact AMC design meets the connection requirements of the Scope Alliance, enabling communication with other modules using carrier boards via Gigabit Ethernet or Serial Rapid IO. Designers can perform layer processing through Arches MAC and use DSP boards to quickly build a wireless subsystem prototype for the physical layer.

During the conference held at the Marriott Las Colinas Hotel in Dallas, AMCC shared its technical expertise on its booth, introduced joint development efforts with industry-leading partners, and demonstrated the Arches reference design. The company also demonstrated its dual-port 10GBASE-KR and OTN solutions to demonstrate the future of 10-Gigabit per second interconnect technology.
