Sony OLED TV panels and screen sound "black technology" actually come from LG

One of the highlights of the CES conference today is Sony's 2017 flagship product, the XBR-A1E Bravia 4K OLED TV. In addition to the screen, the biggest highlight of the XBR-A1E is the AcousTIc Surface technology. Instead of relying on the sounding unit, it can sound through the screen vibration. In other words, the screen of the TV is equivalent to the sound. According to Sony, this technology can save space inside the TV and fully emit the ultra-thin advantage of OLED without backlight.

However, it turns out that whether it is Sony's amazing screen or AcousTIc Surface "black technology", it is from Korean company LG.

Currently, there are only two Korean companies that produce OLED screens: Samsung and LG. However, Samsung is focused on small-size OLED screens, and only LG has the ability to mass-produce large-size OLED screens. As we all know, Sony no longer produces panels, so the OLED panel of the A1E TV is still from LG.

However, after exploring the scene of CES, a foreign media reporter found that not only this screen, but also the technology of AcousTIc Surface should come from LG, but it was just rebranded by Sony.

The Crystal Sound OLED TV that LG showed at the CES venue also used the screen vibration to replace the sound. To showcase this technology, LG placed two TVs: one vertical and one horizontal. A vertically placed TV is used to play background music, showing the clarity and volume of the sound. The two horizontally placed TVs have two small beads in the middle, which can be clearly observed. When the TV is sounding, the screen is really shaking. Larger than the two ends, the motor used to drive the panel vibration is located in the middle of the screen. Moreover, no matter how the screen vibrates, it has no effect on the picture quality.

Unlike LG, LG is not willing to publicly acknowledge that Sony's AcousTIc Surface technology is provided by itself.

Although the two core technologies of A1E are provided by LG, this does not mean that Sony's OLED TV will perform worse than LG. As the earliest color TV giant with OLED layout, Sony has a deep technical accumulation in color display, and sound products are also one of Sony's strengths.

A foreign netizen commented: Just like Sony's photographic sensor for the iPhone, Peugeot's diesel engine for Mercedes-Benz, the parts provider does not necessarily play the best of its own technology, and ultimately depends on the adjustment.
