The main network in East China is currently 500 kilovolts, and the power grid in East China is very dense and criss-cross. The development is approaching its limit. Currently, the problem of excessive current in this area is very prominent, and some short-circuit problems also arise. To build a special high-voltage project from Qindong to the east, one is to increase the voltage level and increase the transmission capacity. In addition, the 500kV short-circuit capacity exceeding the standard can be fundamentally solved, which can meet the long-term development needs of East China Power Grid.

By the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan period, Huainan coal-electric power base had already put into production 8.55 million kilowatts of power, and the power projects that had already carried out preliminary construction work had reached more than 6 million kilowatts. In such a large-capacity case, long-distance, large-capacity, and small-area UHV line construction can be used to truly open up the power transmission highway. On the one hand, it can solve the problem of transport of coal resources in Huainan. On the other hand, it also alleviates some of the bottleneck problems encountered in the long-term high-load operation of East China Power Grid. Tao Yong, general manager of the State Grid East China Transmission and Transformation Engineering Company, said that the “Dongguan East Power Transmission Project” is China’s first UHV AC double-circuit transmission tower on the same tower. It can be said that it represents the highest level of technical research and engineering application of the world’s power grids.
