China's market shrinks to 2% LG pushes OLED into "conspiracy theory"

GLII Comments: The introduction of new products and new technologies often goes through a process from market doubt to market acceptance. Just like the original LED streetlights, when the market was first launched around 2008, the price was as high as over RMB 10,000, and there were often problems such as dead lights, which were high in price. In contrast to the rapid development of the LED street lamp market today, it is clear that we do not need to make more descriptions.

the Rainbow comes after the storm? Good things will eventually be accepted and sought after by the market! LG pushes OLED TV, the direction is right.

It seems that no home appliance product like OLED TV has been criticized on the market. First of all, the industry has exposed its low quality and low service life, and the product is overpriced and questioned. When doubts have not subsided, LG Electronics, which is pushing OLED, is caught in the "conspiracy theory".

LG TV sales in China are decreasing year by year, allegedly want to borrow OLED tree image

In the spring of March, it is the season when Chinese and foreign color TV giants launch new products. However, unlike Samsung, TCL and other color TV giants pushing 4K Ultra HD TVs, yesterday, LG Electronics announced that it will launch a new OLED TV product – the 55-inch “Gallery” to the Chinese market.

Once the news was disclosed, some insiders pointed out that OLED is still a concept product at this stage. LG Electronics is forced to do so. The potential purpose is to use OLED to establish a high-end image in the TV field and to keep TV sales down in China. "This is LG Electronics' OLED conspiracy."

A few days ago, the sales data of the color TV market released by the home appliance market research organization showed that LG TV ranked 12th in China, with a market share of 2%; sales accounted for 3%, ranking 11th. In 2009, LG TV sales in China accounted for 3.8%, and sales accounted for 5.6%.

"LG should be aware of the embarrassing situation of TV sales in the Chinese market. It hopes to promote OLEDs, establish a high-end image of LG TV, and regain lost market share." The industry insiders pointed out that in the rise of domestic TV brands, Today, LG Electronics' OLED TV tactics have had little effect.

The high price of OLEDs is still not mature

The so-called OLED, that is, the organic light-emitting diode, compared with the conventional liquid crystal display, the OLED panel has many advantages such as self-illumination, light and power saving, high contrast, rich color, high resolution, and no viewing angle limitation. In addition, the OLED screen is flexible and bendable for a more avant-garde and interesting product form.

Last July, LG Electronics first announced the launch of OLED TV. The first 55-inch curved screen OLED sold for $14,999 (about $91,000).

Soon after the product was introduced to the market, the US CNET website wrote that the price of the product was too high and did not receive much attention.

Subsequently, experts pointed out that OLED is easy to burn. As with plasma TVs and CRT monitors, if the image is left for too long, the OLED will leave the image on the screen for a short period of time, or even permanently. Although the probability of being specifically affected is currently uncertain, several examples have already occurred.

OLED is also said to face two major problems in mass production, including the relatively short life of blue pixels and lower yield. Blue pixels are much less efficient than red and green pixels - studies have shown that blue pixels are only 4% and the other two are up to 20%. Blue pixels also have the potential to reduce the life of the screen. Experts say that this situation may have improved as technology advances, but no company has given exact data.

"LG has not released the service life of OLED TVs. At present, its OLED TVs only provide 12 months warranty." Some experts also pointed out that the current price of LCD screens accounts for 70% of the total TV cost. If the OLED screen has a quality problem after one year of warranty, consumers will not be able to afford it.

In mid-February this year, LG Electronics suddenly announced that it sold OLED TVs in the United States. The 55EA9800's 55-inch curved screen OLED TV dropped from less than $7,000 (about $40,000) to $14,999 (about $91,000). When the news came out, it caused controversy. Some Chinese netizens said that the price of OLED is too high, too profitable, and the price can be halved, which is 20,000 yuan.

And some color TV experts said that after the OLED industry matures, 55-inch products will also sell around 10,000 yuan. Hao Yabin, vice president and executive deputy secretary-general of the China Electronics Video Industry Association, said, “At present, the price reduction of OLEDs is not sold, because the gap is too large compared with ordinary LCD TVs.” In his view, OLED products are large-scale. Mass production should be listed two to three years later.
