Engineers of street lamps: Can LED street lights save 60% of electricity?

With the increasing emphasis on street lighting, both street lighting management and energy-saving manufacturers are actively looking for new energy-saving technologies to solve the problem of street lighting. Some of the new light sources are used as energy-saving products for road lighting. In the propaganda materials of the manufacturers, these new light sources have significant power saving effects, saving more than 40% of electricity compared with traditional high-pressure sodium lamps. Among them, LED street lights are especially developed rapidly, so that many of the conference topics about streetlight saving are basically about LED lighting, and in many streetlights, LED streetlights have become one of the main candidates.

Is the LED Street Light really more than 60% more energy efficient than the high pressure sodium lamp? I have some thoughts on the LED street light technology and its application:

1. From the analysis of luminous efficiency, the luminous efficiency of LED chips is far worse than that of high-pressure sodium lamps. Even if the high efficiency of LED lamps can compensate for the lack of light efficiency, the actual use of LEDs at this stage is still lower than that of high-pressure sodium lamps. At present, ultra-light high-pressure sodium lamps have been widely used, and in many materials, ordinary high-pressure sodium lamps are also used as a comparison.

2. From the practical application case analysis, many manufacturers will prove that LED street lamps save more than 60% of electricity by their implementation cases. The actual cases are mainly based on some relatively old street lamps that need to be modified, or the power source is biased. Road sections with high and road brightness levels exceeding the standard. Therefore, it is difficult to be convinced that the conclusion of LED streetlights to save electricity in the case of transformation. This is because:

a. For the old street lamp facilities, whether it is a lamp or a light source, it is already behind the technical level. The running time has reached or is close to the service life, plus the maintenance lag (the glass cover of the lamp is yellow, the dust inside the lamp is light, and the light is transmitted. Poor sex), which led to severe attenuation of lighting. In some case studies, it was found that there were ubiquitous situations where the power and brightness of the source were inconsistent.

b. For the road where the original light source power is too high and the illumination brightness level exceeds the standard, the LED street lamp illumination only reduces the power and brightness (can reach the national standard), as long as the original facilities reduce the lamps or reduce the power of the light source, the festival can be achieved. Electrical effect.

c. In the survey of road lighting conditions in my city, I found that under the same road and the same lighting mode, the brightness caused by different lamps, light sources or operating years is different; the new urban road lighting standard (CJJ45- 2006) There is a clear difference between the power of the light source before and after the promulgation, which is basically a difference. This shows that the energy-saving retrofit of existing road lighting can be achieved by adjusting the power of the lamps and light sources.

3. I once tested and compared the light source that is also called the high-pressure sodium lamp. The test result: the illumination of the 150W high-pressure sodium lamp is 25.5lux, and the illumination of the 200W is 15.3lux. In other similar measurements, it also reflects that the high-pressure sodium lamp provides more illumination per watt than the other sources.

4. In the application of LED streetlights, many mentioned the theory of intermediate vision lighting. Although the S/P value of LED color source in the middle vision category is higher than that of high pressure sodium lamp, it does not mean that it is in 0.001~3cd. In this brightness range of /m2, the luminous efficiency of the LED light source is higher than that of the high-pressure sodium lamp, and it is only possible under certain brightness conditions (possibly lower than the design brightness of road lighting). In addition, in China's urban road lighting design standards and related policies, there is no relevant regulation on the application of this theory, which means that the design unit design does not consider the influence of the change of the luminous efficiency of the light source on the design in the intermediate visual state.

From the above analysis, at this stage, LED street lamps have not yet achieved the energy-saving effect of the promotion, or even energy-saving (relative to high-pressure sodium lamps), and the application as a power saving device for high-pressure sodium lamps is lack of basis. However, from the perspective of promoting the development of new technologies, I am not opposed to the use of LED street lamps, because only applications can promote the maturity and development of their technology. It is only suggested that the application of LED street lamps at this stage should be considered from the actual situation of the road, but not all As a solution for road lighting.

It is undeniable that LED is an advanced lighting technology, and it will have a good prospect in lighting applications. LED technology is still in the development stage. In addition to the improvement of luminous efficiency, it is suitable for light distribution, cost reduction and product improvement. Stability and consistency are essential. The solution of the problem is not perfect overnight. It is necessary for the manufacturer to do a good job.
