LED lights are widely used in the five key aspects of automotive lighting

In the automotive design of the past two years, the use of LED Lights has become more and more, and it is familiar to more people while adding a modern sense to the appearance of the car. The headlights of the new Audi A4 have added elements of LED lights, highlighting the fashion and also indicating that the use of LED lights is a major trend in Audi's future design. However, for most models, most of the LED lights are still used in the taillights of the car, and the use of the headlights and turn signals is still very small. There are still some key technical problems to be overcome.

Let me talk about the advantages of LED lights. LED is the abbreviation of LED, which is a solid-state semiconductor that directly converts electricity into light. It has the advantages of high reliability, long service life, high lumen per watt and fast response. The expected life of the LED is 50,000 hours, while the tungsten halogen lamp is 20,000 hours, and the ordinary incandescent lamp is 3000 hours. It is structurally strong and is not susceptible to vibration. The same electric energy can generate more light output; when the vehicle speed is 125km/ h (ie 35 meters seconds), the fast-responding LED brake light can issue a brake warning about 8 meters early to effectively avoid accidents.

However, some problems that are still difficult to solve properly restrict the development of LED lights. The key problem and the biggest challenge is the self-heating problem of LED. Most of the LED energy is converted into conduction heat instead of radiant heat, and it can't carry out the interior illumination well. More importantly, the conduction heat causes the LED semiconductor temperature to be too high. It is easy to damage; at the same time, the lumen of LED lights does not increase with the current, that is, the electricity consumption does not necessarily brighten more; while the LED light has obvious directionality, the illumination is not enough; the external environment temperature is LED light The impact is equally huge, so thermal management of it is the most fundamental problem to be solved. This involves the control and management of current components, especially thermistors. The linear control of current is the key to whether LEDs can work properly and safely. . LEDs change color with changes in temperature and current, which may affect night vision effects and distance determination; current frequencies may even cause frequent flashing of light. At the same time, most countries' laws related to automotive lighting do not have much support for LED lights, and they also limit its development.

Undoubtedly, the use of high-brightness LED lighting will become one of the important development directions of the future car. After completely solving the difficulties existing in the technology and other aspects, LED will eventually be widely used in automotive lighting.
