Recently, the Nepalese government and the South Korean government have jointly cooperated to fund the Chameliya hydropower project through the Economic Development Corporation Fund, which has already added 15 megawatts of electricity to the Nepal State Grid. The head of the hydropower project said, “The installed capacity of the project is 30 megawatts, of which 15 megawatts have been synchronized with the national power transmission line of the Nepal Power Authority on Friday afternoon.†Despite having the first consumer rights, Nepalese locals were deprived of electricity from Chameliya hydropower because the National Electricity Authority of Nepal (NEA) has not yet built transmission lines and substations in the area. China Gezhouba Group Corporation has been supervising the construction of the project with a target cost of Rs 8.34 billion. It is estimated that the hydropower project will cost Rs 16 billion after completion.
