The four-channel TLV320AIC34, TLV320AIC33, and TLV320AIC3106 stereo codecs accept both digital bit streams from digital amplifiers and differential or single-ended inputs from traditional analog amplifiers. The new codecs, combined with digital amplifiers from companies such as Akustica, offer designers the highest quality audio solutions.
Digital audio signals generated by digital loudspeakers are more resistant to electronic noise than analog signals and are therefore becoming increasingly popular in a variety of applications. With digital amplifiers, designers have more flexibility and freedom to set up codecs and amplifiers, which is very important for portable applications. Due to the tight space on the board, both the chip and the codec are next to the sound reinforcement. The challenge is presented from a mechanical point of view.
In addition to being able to connect directly to digital amplifiers, the new codecs have the following key advantages:
• Supports sampling rates of 8-96 ksps;

The TLV320AIC33 and TLV320AIC3106 are available now, and the TLV320AIC34 is sampling now. The TLV320AIC34 is available in a 6mm x 6mm BGA package, while the TLV320AIC33 and TLV320AIC3106 are available in 5mm x 5mm BGA and 7mm x 7mm QFN packages.
